Homemade Donuts

CORINNA (NEWS CENTER) -- The Corinna Volunteer Fire Department shares with us their very old homemade donut recipe!

This Saturday the department has one of its largest fundraisers of the year - The Hunter's Breakfast.  One of their signature foods at the breakfast is their homemade donuts.  For more information about the event, click here!

4 eggs

2 c. sugar

1 t. vanilla

1 t. white vinegar

5 1/2 c. flour

2 t. baking soda

1 t. baking powder

1 t. salt

1 1/2 c. buttermilk

1/2 c. heavy cream

1 T. nutmeg

Cream eggs and sugar. Add vanilla and vinegar. In a separate bowl, mix dry ingredients. In another separate bowl, mix buttermilk and heavy cream. Add dry ingredients and buttermilk mixture alternately to sugar mixture. Put into donut maker. Or, if you don't have one, heat lard to 400*. Fry until golden brown on each side -- turning them halfway through.
