PORTER, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Officials say a man whose home was about to be searched by FBI agents has died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Maine Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland says members of the State Police Tactical Team entered the home of 30-year-old Gardner Halsey just after noon. They found his body on the first floor of the house on Spec Pond Road.
McCausland says federal agents were about to execute a search warrant at Halsey's residence when they heard a gunshot. McCausland says no details are being released about what the FBI was looking for.
The Tactical Team was called from a training exercise in the town of Sebec. Drivers on Interstate 95 reported seeing several state police vehicles responding to the call.
