AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) -- A 31-year-old Augusta man is going to prison for 45 years for stabbing another man to death with a broken walking can in a dispute over a woman.

Peter Bathgate II pleaded guilty Friday in Kennebec County Superior Court before being sentenced in the Dec. 3, 2010, death of 47-year-old Paul Allen, also of Augusta.

The Kennebec Journal reported that Bathgate stabbed Allen to death in a rural area of Hallowell, hit him with his pickup truck and then dumped the body on the side of a road. The body was discovered two days later.

According to an affidavit, Bathgate told police he flew into a jealous rage after seeing Allen flirt with his girlfriend.
