PORTSMOUTH, NH (NEWS CENTER) -- Emergency crews were called to the Memorial Bridge just before 2 p.m. Tuesday for a report of a tugboat taking on water.
Coast Guard investigators say when the water started coming in, the operator lost control, and the boat, called the "Miss Stacy," got wedged in the pilings under the bridge.
The coast guard is investigating to try to determine why the tug started taking on water in the first place. Lt. Nathaniel Robinson says the tug could have capsized if the crew on a nearby boat hadn't acted quickly.
"I would say there was a little bit of danger to the captain and crew on board," Robinson said. "It seemed like he acted in the right manner to get his crew and the boat back to the pier here with the help of some passing mariners."
Coast Guard officials say there doesn't appear to be any damage to the boat's equipment, so the owners will probably try to have it working on the bridge again soon.
