PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- A jury has found a Cumberland County Jail guard not guilty of assaulting an inmate last summer.
Nicholas Stein' trial began Tuesday. He was accused of dragging and punching inmate Brian Cote in June 2011.
Cote testified that he was injured when he jumped from a second-floor balcony. He claimed instead of getting him medical attention, Stein dragged him 200 feet and punched him in the face.
Cote's girlfriend told the court he was in a wheelchair for five months and underwent several surgeries after the jump.
Stein has been on leave since he entered a not guilty plea in July.
