WINDSOR, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- An unusual accident that left three people dead while they were four wheeling on an off road trail in the town of Windsor over the weekend is bringing to light safety concerns when it comes to outdoor recreation.

The Kennebec County Sheriff's Office says Reginald Gay, his wife Samantha Gay, and their friend Luke Thompson were four wheeling on an off road trail near their home Friday night.  All three were found dead by a family member Saturday evening.

Capt. Dan Davies with the Kennebec County Sheriff's Office says he believes alcohol was a contributing factor in the accident, and he says Reginald Gay was attemping to drive through the bog when the back of the Jeep became stuck in the mud.  Davies says when he found the Jeep the windows were open, but it doesn't take long in a situation like this for the carbon monoxide to make its way into the car.

The State Medical Examiner's Office completed autopsies on the bodies Monday, but it says more toxicology tests are needed to determine an official cause of death.
