BANGOR, Maine (NEWS CENTER)-- Getting a good night sleep is important to maintaining a healthy lifestyle. For people who have sleep apnea, they may have to use a Continuous Positive Airway Pressure, or more commonly known as CPAP machine, to get a restful night sleep.
Tomorrow night at the Hilton Garden Inn in Bangor, former Biggest Loser contestant Sherry Johnston will be the keynote speaker for an educational seminar on sleep apnea.
Johnston said she will talk to people about the importance of using a CPAP machine, and sharing experiences she had with sleep apnea before she started using a CPAP machine.
Even though Johnston has lost almost 100 pounds, she said that has not cured her of her sleep apnea.
"I still do use my CPAP. I am an avid user. I travel with it everywhere I go. Just because I've lost the weight does not necessarily mean that it's cured my problem. And so for me I'm still a CPAP user because I still have obstructive sleep apnea," Johnston said.
The seminar starts at 6:00 tomorrow night, and is open to the public. Two other doctors will give presentations about symptoms of sleep apnea and other ways of treating it.
