Anthony was born on Feb. 15, 1820.  Her image was engraved onto the dollar coin in recognition of her work to win suffrage for women.

The image on the reverse side was an adaptation of the patch worn by astronauts on the Apollo 11 mission.  It depicts an eagle landing on the moon's surface.

The coin was extremely unpopular.  It was only produced for three consecutive years from 1979 to 1981 and then again briefly in 1999.
