LAKE RAY HUBBARD, Texas (KXAS) - A rare snowy owl has birdwatchers flocking to Texas' Lake Ray Hubbard.

Jay Packer drove in from Abilene to get a picture.

He says the owl flew south in search of food.

"When the lemming population crashes, all of the sudden you've got lots of owls without enough food, and so they can come south in huge numbers," he explains.

Several snowy owls have been spotted across the Midwest in recent weeks in territory where they normally aren't seen.
