Morning clouds broke for some afternoon sunshine Wednesday sending temperatures soaring into the upper 40s and lower 50s. Certainly not what you would expect on February 22. I know many snow lovers who have been fretting about the lack of snowfall this month and today did nothing to change that. Tomorrow won't help much either as we have more rain headed our way thanks to an area of low pressure that is expected to track right through Maine. The low will move off to the northeast Thursday night and as it does so it should pull some colder air down from Canada. Then with that cold air in place another area of low pressure is going to move our way for Friday. The models are coming into better agreement on the track of this low and it now appears that it will not head up the Saint Lawrence River as previously suggested. That track would have resulted in another rain event. It now appears the low will stay farther to the east and this should keep enough cold air in place for the precipitation to fall as mostly snow. Right now I'm guessing 4-8 inches with lower totals possible along the coast where we could see the snow change to rain. This will be updated tomorrow. The storm is going to exit our region on Saturday and by Sunday we should see plenty of sunshine along with some very cold temperatures. Snow lovers take heart.
